John initially joined a large acoustic consultancy practice in 1971, and
subsequently gained an MSc. in environmental acoustics, along with experience
in many related fields. He was a founding Director of Acoustic Design Ltd., in 1982, and established a wide range of clients, particularly in the building and mechanical services sector. A number of technical articles have been published on the noise from building services. He also served on the British Standards Committee for fan coil unit noise, and the Eastern Region of The Institute of Acoustics. Noise testing of mechanical plant, in the UK, Europe and America, has enabled him to gain a wide appreciation of the equipment in current use for major building projects, and the interpretation of manufacturer’s claims. A comprehensive survey of noise and vibration for the new High Speed Rail link to St. Petersburg provided an interesting comparison with similar surveys nearer to home. Typical prestigious projects include the Palace of Westminster committee rooms, House of Lords, and BBC Broadcasting House, along with many large commercial projects, headquarters buildings, laboratories, educational facilities and Crown Courts. He has also appeared as expert witness in several legal/planning matters. John joined the Sharps Redmore Partnership in 2002 and with over 30 years experience of acoustics in buildings and their services, he continues to develop his interests in these areas. |
