BSc (Hons.) MIOA
James studied Audio Technology & Internet Technology at the now Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge graduating in 2002. In 2004 he undertook the IOA Diploma in Acoustics & Noise Control at Colchester Institute.
James’ first job was computer programing at BT’s research centre in Martlesham Heath, which was a one year apprenticeship derived from a National Diploma he attained. Not convinced programming was for him, he headed off to Cambridge. Post-university James worked as an IT Trainer educating adults on a variety of office based applications and invigilated examinations. James moved to Sharps Redmore Partnership at the beginning of 2005 as a Trainee Acoustic Consultant. He hasn’t looked back and is now a senior consultant heading up the North England office.
James was introduced to field of acoustic during his degree. He started the IOA Diploma in his spare time and was directly referred to Sharps Redmore who were actively recruiting ‘new blood’. Since joining SR James has grasped an in-depth understanding of the subject specialising in environmental noise and building acoustics. His work includes environmental assessment, road traffic and railway noise assessment, mechanical services noise and the acoustic design on projects such as schools, village halls, offices, commercial and residential developments. James is also UKAS accredited for providing pre-completion sound insulation testing.
James is a keen golfer, although with an expanding young family finds it hard to fit in 18 holes, let alone the 19th. He has a strong motoring background and enjoys keeping up with the formula one season. He also likes decent real ale straight from the cask and enjoys adding to his dynamic whisky collection, which he tops with a brace of 30yo Speysides.
