Sharps Redmore retailed the Acoustics Challenge Trophy in style in 2019 with a comfortable 8 wicket defeat of SRL at the picturesque Copdock cricket club. Unbeknown to both sides on the day this was the 15th anniversary of the match between the two sides, with SRL currently winning the head to head by 8 games to 7.
Tight bowling and some loose shots from the visiting SRL team saw them bowled out for 84. Wickets were shared with Martin Court taking 3 wickets, two wickets each for the two Marks, Speed and Taylor, and a wicket a piece for Kinsman, Jenkins and Redmore.
The run chase was swift with the winning runs being hit with 10 overs to space. Redmore and Kinsman took the attack to the SRL bowlers, both retiring at 25 not out, before King, Riches and Jenkins saw the home side reach their target.
The match was played in an excellent friendly atmosphere and it was a good an opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces.
Man of the match, awarded by the umpires, went to SRLs Pike for his stubborn resistance in the middle order. As is traditional, a charity donation cheque was presented to the winners by SRL; this year the chosen charity was the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
