Sharps Redmore were employed by the main contractor to review the acoustic design with particular reference to the requirements for BREEAM.
This prestigious project on the University campus at Colchester comprised two new buildings One included seminar rooms, administration areas, informal breakout areas for discussion and group work, and radio studios for broadcast and training. The other building was an extension to the existing library.
Due to the nature of the design of the buildings (exposed concrete soffits, large open-plan areas), the acoustic design was challenging. Having reviewed the acoustic design, advice was provided to help achieve the BREEAM criteria whilst being conscious of buildability, project timescales and financial constraints.
During the construction period, Sharps Redmore developed a test schedule to demonstrate compliance with the BREEAM criteria. As completion of the project approached, the test programme was completed. The report submitted to the BREEAM Assessor demonstrated that the project requirements were met.
