Nick Durup

Education

Nick’s undergraduate studies were at APU, Cambridge, graduating with a First in Audio & Music Technology. Since joining SR Nick has completed the IOA Diploma in Acoustics & Noise Control and an MSc in Environmental & Architectural Acoustics. He was awarded the Acoustical Society of America Newman Medal for excellence in the study of acoustics and its application to architecture.

Nick holds Chartered Engineer status and completed a PhD at London South Bank University in 2018 on the effects of classroom acoustics on teachers’ voices. Nick has published scientific papers on his research as well as presenting at national and international conferences.

Work history

Nick worked as a Sound Engineer in music and conference sound after his undergraduate studies at a wide range of events including major music festivals and international political summits. Nick joined Sharps Redmore in 2007, becoming an Associate in 2015 and a Director in 2020

Work experience

Nick works in a broad range of Building Acoustics areas with a particular interest in educational, music and cinema projects. He enjoys being involved in the entire process of a project from the initial acoustic brief and planning application, through the detailed design to site visits and commissioning testing.

Plus

Nick likes to relax on two wheels of various flavours and can still be found at concerts on occasion, normally near the mix position. He’s a keen cook and plans to build a bread oven one day.
