Paul Riches
BSc(Hons)Env. MIOA
Education
Paul studied Environmental Science at The University of East Anglia, followed by a Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control in 2005.
Work history
Paul has held a variety of interesting positions, starting with working in a local jewellers and ice cream factory whilst at Sixth Form College. After college he started an apprenticeship with a local engineering company before moving on to Lotus Cars, where he worked for a period of time prior to returning to Education at the UEA. Following his degree, Paul worked for six years as an Environmental Protection Officer with a Local Authority in Norfolk before joining Sharps Redmore as an Acoustic Consultant in 2008. He has also been a member of the Institute of Acoustics since 2008.
Work experience
Paul specialises in environmental noise, and has experience in planning noise issues, railway and road traffic noise assessment, and industrial and construction site noise. Paul has become Sharps Redmore’s principal noise modelling consultant, using SoundPLAN noise modelling software for projects including residential developments, waste- to-energy facilities, transport and distribution depots, data centres, and retail and leisure developments.
Plus
The majority of Paul’s time outside work is devoted to his family, with two very active children. An avid football fan, long-suffering supporter of Ipswich Town FC, and a former football referee, Paul has the unenviable task as captain of the Sharps Redmore FC team in the ITFC 6-a-side lunchtime business league. He also plays for Watton Town FC in the Norfolk FA Veterans League, and helps to coach his sons under 9’s team.
